Spyderco RockJumper/LeafJumper handle scales
The Spyderco RockJumper (model C254) and LeafJumper (model C262) are lightweight, mid-sized back lock folders designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser for outdoor enthusiasts, climbers, and versatile EDC
The RockJumper launched first in 2019 (announced via Spyderco's Reveal program, January 2019). Sal created it to meet specific performance needs: a broad, full-flat-ground VG-10 blade (~3.08") for excellent slicing, lightweight FRN (fiberglass-reinforced nylon) scales, four-position clip, and ergonomic handle—ideal for rugged use while remaining pocket-friendly. Made in Japan, it emphasized reliability and low weight (~3.1 oz)
Building on its popularity and user feedback, Sal refined the concept for the LeafJumper, released in 2022 (featured in 2022 Reveal Volume 11 and 2023 Product Guide). It retains the RockJumper's wide, comfortable handle and back lock but swaps the Wharncliffe-style blade for a versatile leaf-shaped profile (~3.09")—slightly upswept for reinforced tip and broader utility in piercing, slicing, and general tasks. Offered in VG-10 and elite K390 variants (with blue/black FRN options), it delivers enhanced versatility without added bulk
Both models showcase Spyderco's user-driven evolution, blending lightweight construction, premium Japanese steel, and thoughtful ergonomics for high-performance outdoor and everyday carry
