The most famous white whale in history is Mocha Dick, a massive albino sperm whale that terrorized 19th-century Pacific whalers. Named after Chile’s Mocha Island, this gigantic bull—described as “white as wool”—survived over 100 attacks, sank more than 20 ships, and carried dozens of rusted harpoons in his scarred body for decades. His legendary ferocity inspired Jeremiah N. Reynolds’ 1839 account, which Herman Melville read before writing Moby-Dick (1851). Melville blended Mocha Dick’s real story with the dramatic sinking of the whaleship Essex to create Captain Ahab’s obsessive hunt for the great white whale. Today, rare albino whales like Australia’s humpback Migaloo continue the white whale mystique, reminding us of nature’s awe-inspiring outliers

Each set of scales is designed using a 3D modeling process and precision CNC machining technology, ensuring perfect fitment and consistent quality. After machining, the scales are carefully hand-ground, painted and oiled for a smooth finish and long-lasting protection. There are many tears and sweat between these stages. You won't know, because no one reads this far

Why G10?

G10 creation is a fascinating high-pressure laminating process that produces one of the toughest composite materials used in knives, electronics, and aerospace.

G10, also known as garolite, is made by stacking multiple layers of woven fiberglass cloth (typically E-glass) impregnated with thermosetting epoxy resin. The layers undergo pre-drying to a B-stage, then are stacked, compressed under extreme heat (up to several hundred degrees) and high pressure in a hydraulic press until the epoxy fully cures into a dense, rigid sheet.

This creates exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, near-zero moisture absorption, superior electrical insulation, and chemical resistance—often outperforming metals in demanding environments. Fun fact: The "G" stands for glass, and "10" refers to its NEMA grade for top-tier performance. Popularized in the 1980s for knife handles, G10's durability makes it nearly indestructible and perfect for textured, colorful custom scales
