Raffir

Raffir handle scales

Raffir, a leading Danish manufacturer of premium composite materials for knife handles, jewelry, and luxury accessories, was founded in 2013 in Aalborg, Denmark, by Morten Bøttzauw and Jesper Johansen

Both founders had backgrounds in advanced composites and engineering. Frustrated by the limited availability of high-quality, consistent, and visually striking handle materials beyond traditional wood, G10, and Micarta, they set out to create innovative, stable alternatives using resin-infused natural fibers and modern techniques

The breakthrough came with Raffir Fossil (mammoth ivory composite) and Raffir Stabilized woods—materials that preserve natural beauty while eliminating cracking, warping, and moisture issues. Early products debuted in 2014, quickly adopted by top custom knifemakers worldwide for their durability, workability, and unique patterns

Key milestones include the introduction of Raffir Alu (aluminum-infused composite, 2016), Raffir Wave (wave-pattern stabilized materials), Raffir Birch (stabilized Nordic birch), and Raffir Damascus hybrids. By 2020, Raffir had become the go-to supplier for premium knife handle materials, supplying makers like Jesper Voxnaes, MKM, GiantMouse, and many others

Today, Raffir remains family-owned and Danish-made, synonymous with innovation, consistency, and luxury aesthetics in knife handle scales, custom knife materials, and high-end composites—redefining possibilities for EDC knives, tactical folders, and artisan blades
