Fällkniven, a premier Swedish knife brand renowned for survival knives, hunting knives, and bushcraft blades, was founded in March 1984 in Boden, northern Sweden, by Peter Hjortberger. A passionate hunter and outdoorsman inspired by U.S. knifemakers in the early 1980s, Hjortberger started by importing high-quality knives and publishing Sweden's first full-color knife catalog in 1985

In 1987, the company pivoted to designing its own models. The breakthrough came in 1995 when, after eight years of rigorous testing and development for the Swedish Defense Administration, Fällkniven delivered the first batch of the F1 Pilot Survival Knife to the Swedish Air Force in August 1995. This iconic convex-ground, full-tang fixed blade (initially ATS34 steel from Germany, later VG-10 and laminated 3G from Japan) became the official survival knife for Swedish pilots and a global bestseller—earning praise for exceptional toughness, safe sheath, and reliability

Production shifted to Seki, Japan (with Hattori collaboration) for premium laminates. In 2009, Peter's son Eric Hjortberger took over as president, expanding the family-owned business. By its 40th anniversary in 2024, Fällkniven had solidified its reputation for innovative steels, convex grinds, protruding tangs, and unbreakable durability—trusted by military, outdoorsmen, and enthusiasts worldwide in premium survival knives and tactical fixed blades
