In 2021, Demko Knives—founded by legendary designer Andrew Demko—released the AD-20.5 as the first full-production knife under his independent label. Following the 2020 sale of Cold Steel to GSM Outdoors, Demko departed to expand his brand, building on the success of the in-house MG AD-20 (debut 2020) that introduced his innovative Shark Lock
The Demko AD-20.5 debuted around May–June 2021 (available at Blade Show 2021 in Atlanta), kicking off a Taiwan-made line for broader accessibility. It features a compact 3–3.25-inch blade in AUS-10A stainless steel (later variants: CPM-3V, S35VN, 20CV, D2) for toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance, with drop-point or "Shark Foot" shapes, thumb studs/hole deployment, and textured Grivory/FRN or G-10 handles. Weighing ~3.5–4 oz, the patented Shark Lock (spine-mounted fin mechanism, refined from 10+ years of development inspired by Ram Safe) delivers fidget-friendly, ultra-secure operation—flick-openable like an auto
Priced ~$120–$150 MSRP, it sold out rapidly (e.g., BladeHQ drops), earning KnifeNews Readers' Choice Best New Folder 2021 for its hard-use reliability, smooth action, and value. Variants like milled titanium, DLC, and premium steels followed—solidifying the AD-20.5 as Demko's flagship Shark Lock EDC knife and benchmark in tactical folding knives
