Chaves handle scales

Chaves Knives, a premier American custom and production knife brand, was founded by Ramon Chaves in 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With Mexican roots and a military family background—his father served in the Korean Conflict—Ramon's passion ignited in high school around 1992–1993 after discovering an old fixed blade his uncle crafted from a saw blade as a 1950s wedding gift. Inspired, the teenage Ramon forged his first Bowie knife, sparking a lifelong obsession

Starting as a hobby, Ramon handcrafted custom knives in a modest garage setup. In 2010, a friend paid for his first commissioned piece, turning passion into profession. He quit day jobs to go full-time, building a reputation for rugged, ergonomic designs featuring his signature skull logo

To reach wider audiences, Ramon partnered with Reate Knives for production models under Chaves Ultramar (later rebranded to simply Chaves Knives for better branding/SEO). Hits like the Redencion, Liberation, Sangre, T.A.K., and C.H.U.B. exploded in popularity for premium materials (S35VN, titanium, Micarta) and hard-use reliability

Relocating to Pleasant Grove, Utah, Chaves Knives evolved into Red, Blue, and Black Label tiers—blending custom heritage with accessible EDC folders, autos, and tools. Known for durability, bold aesthetics, and blue-collar appeal, it remains a cult favorite in tactical EDC knives and collector circles
