Demand for reduced recoil and premium feel—echoing Walther's earlier Q5 Match Steel frame success—led to steel-frame variants. Walther debuted the PDP Match Steel frame (full-size 5" competition model) in December 2023, machined from billet steel for superior rigidity, balance, and flatter shooting

Key milestone: At SHOT Show 2024 (January 2024), Walther expanded the lineup with the PDP Steel frame Compact 4" and full size 4.5", targeting concealed carry, duty, and range use. The Compact Steel frame weighs ~38–39 oz unloaded (vs. ~25–27 oz polymer), taming muzzle flip dramatically while retaining the PDP's 4" barrel, 15+1 capacity, accessory rail, Dynamic Performance Trigger options, and full modularity (swap slides, frames, barrels)
