Tanfoglio (Fratelli Tanfoglio S.n.c.) is a renowned Italian firearms manufacturer specializing in high-performance semi-automatic pistols, headquartered in Gardone Val Trompia, Brescia—the heart of Italy's "Gun Valley."

The Tanfoglio family's firearms legacy dates to the early 1900s, when Bortolo Tanfoglio (father of Giuseppe) produced sidelocks and components for local shotgun makers in Magno village

Key founding: In 1948, Giuseppe Tanfoglio and partner Antonio Sabatti established SATA to manufacture shotgun parts and hunting rifle components. By 1953, SATA began producing small semi-automatic pistols in .22 Short, .22 LR, and 6.35mm (.25 ACP), plus over/under shotguns

In late 1960, Giuseppe dissolved SATA (leaving shotguns to the Sabatti family) and formed his own firm, Tanfoglio Giuseppe, exporting pistols, derringers, revolvers, and air rifles—primarily to the U.S.—until 1992

Pivotal milestone: In 1969, Giuseppe's children—Lino, Marilena, and Massimo—founded Fratelli Tanfoglio ("Tanfoglio Brothers"), shifting focus exclusively to semi-automatic pistols for self-defense in various calibers

In 1986, the company pivoted to competition shooting, developing models optimized for IPSC and IDPA—earning global dominance. Tanfoglio pistols have powered IPSC World and European champions continuously since 1998

Today, under Italian Firearms Group (exclusive U.S. importer since 2022), Tanfoglio excels in defense, duty, and sport pistols—blending Italian craftsmanship, precision engineering, and competition-proven reliability
