The Ruger Mark IV 22/45 is the modern evolution of Ruger’s iconic .22 LR semi-automatic pistol, combining the proven Mark series accuracy with 1911-style ergonomics and a revolutionary one-button takedown
Introduced in 2016 at SHOT Show, the Mark IV addressed the biggest criticism of earlier models (Mark I–III): difficult field-stripping. Ruger engineers developed a patented one-button takedown system — simply push a button at the rear of the frame, tilt the barrel upward, and the pistol separates into two pieces for cleaning in seconds
The Mark IV 22/45 retained the popular 1911-inspired polymer grip frame (Zytel), ambidextrous manual safety, magazine release, and slide stop, while adding key upgrades: improved bolt design, enhanced ejection, adjustable sights on most models, and a cleaner trigger pull. It kept the bull-barrel options (4.4", 5.5", 6.88") and lightweight construction (~29–32 oz)
Variants quickly expanded: Hunter (fluted barrel, HiViz front sight), Lite (aluminum receiver), Tactical (threaded barrel, suppressor-ready), and Lite models in multiple colors. All Mark IV pistols feature a loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect for safety compliance
Launched in 2016, the Mark IV 22/45 rapidly became the go-to choice for plinking, training, rimfire competition, and suppressed shooting, praised for reliability, accuracy, and ease of maintenance. It remains one of the most popular .22 pistols in the world
