The Immaculate Heart of Mary—often depicted pierced by seven swords and aflame with divine love—is a central Catholic devotion symbolizing Mary's sinless heart, her perfect purity, and her maternal suffering united with Christ's Passion. The image draws from Simeon's prophecy in Luke 2:35 ("a sword will pierce your own soul too") and medieval mysticism, but gained worldwide prominence through the 1917 apparitions at Fátima, Portugal

On June 13 and July 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children—Lúcia dos Santos, Francisco, and Jacinta Marto—revealing her Immaculate Heart surrounded by thorns, wounded by humanity's sins. She asked for reparation through prayer, penance, and the First Saturday devotion. In the final apparition (October 13, 1917), the "Miracle of the Sun" occurred before 70,000 witnesses, cementing Fátima's fame
