Daniel Defense was founded in 2000 (officially incorporated around 2001–2002) by Marty Daniel in Savannah, Georgia, as a family-owned firearms accessories business. An electrical engineering graduate from Georgia Southern (1985), Marty ran Daniel Overhead Door & Fireplace from 1991 until a frustrating 1999 golf game introduced him to shooting. "Bitten by the shooting bug," he customized his AR-15, spotting gaps in parts availability

Starting in his garage, Marty designed and sold innovative accessories like the "Big Hole Upper" (flat-top receiver) and unique sling loop in 2001, selling online and at events like Knob Creek. Rapid growth followed: in 2002, a key U.S. Army Special Forces contract for M4 upper receivers boosted credibility

By 2005–2006, Daniel Defense won the prestigious RIS II rail system contract with U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), delivering battle-proven handguards still in use today. This military success funded expansion

In 2009, the company launched its first complete firearm—the DDM4 rifle series—at SHOT Show, shifting from parts to premium AR-15-style rifles with cold hammer-forged barrels and top-tier quality. Relocating to a state-of-the-art facility in Black Creek, Georgia (2009), Daniel Defense grew into a leading U.S. manufacturer serving civilians, law enforcement, and elite military units worldwide—renowned for innovation, precision, and reliability
