The "Come and Take It" slogan and flag originated in Gonzales, Texas, during the Battle of Gonzales on October 2, 1835—the first military clash of the Texas Revolution. Mexican authorities lent a small bronze six-pound cannon to Gonzales settlers in 1831 for defense against Comanche and Apache raids. In 1835, amid rising tensions over the Mexican constitution of 1824, Col. Domingo de Ugartechea ordered Capt. Francisco de Castañeda and ~100 troops to retrieve it
The Texians (about 140–180 volunteers under Col. John Henry Moore) refused, hiding the cannon and taunting "Come and Take It!" A committee hastily made a white flag from a wedding dress (sewn by Sara Seely DeWitt and daughter Evaline), featuring a black cannon, lone star, and the defiant motto "Come and Take It"—the first lone-star Texas flag
After a brief skirmish across the Guadalupe River—Texians fired the cannon twice, inflicting one Mexican casualty—the outnumbered Mexicans withdrew without major fighting. Often called the "Lexington of Texas," this minor victory sparked broader rebellion, leading to independence in 1836. The original flag was lost en route to San Antonio, but replicas and the cannon (rediscovered in 1936) remain icons of Texas defiance and pride

Why wood, not G10 or micarta?
Wood offers greater comfort, warmth, and aesthetic satisfaction. Wood is lighter and more pleasant to hold. Wooden grips are best suited for customization and hand finishing. Or perhaps made from G10 and micarta. Why not?
