Reate Knives was founded in 2012 by David Deng, a knife enthusiast with a background in mechanical design and manufacturing. Based in Yangjiang, Guangdong, China’s historic cutlery center, the company set out to close the gap between custom-knife craftsmanship and high-end production. Deng’s vision was simple: uncompromising fit, finish, and innovation at a level rarely seen in factory knives
Reate began as both a brand and an OEM manufacturer, producing precision work for other makers while developing its own designs. Advanced equipment, wire EDM, CNC milling and grinding, laser engraving, and controlled heat treatment, allowed the workshop to hold some of the tightest tolerances in the industry. Premium steels from the United States, Germany, and Japan, paired with titanium, carbon fiber, and G10, became the brand’s signature
Early models such as the District 9 and Horizon series quickly established Reate among collectors. Collaborations with designers including Todd Begg, Tashi Bharucha, and Kirby Lambert produced standout pieces like the Field Marshall, T3000, Future, and Crossroads. In 2021 the EXO gravity-knife series further confirmed the company’s reputation for technical originality
Today Reate is recognized worldwide for mid-tech and collector-grade folders that combine engineering discipline with refined hand finishing—knives built by a maker who treats production as a form of precision craft
