Ka-Bar Becker Short handle scales

In early 2012, Ka-Bar—in collaboration with designer Ethan Becker of Becker Knife & Tool—introduced the Short Becker series (BK15, BK16, BK17) as compact "tweeners" bridging full-size Becker models and smaller neckers. Announced in press releases and hitting shelves around April 2012 (per BladeForums and dealer drops), these "Short Beckers" targeted users wanting lighter, pack-friendly EDC fixed blades for hiking, backpacking, day hikes, and tactical utility without the bulk of larger Beckers

The BK15 Short Trailing Point features a 4.375-inch trailing-point blade in 1095 Cro-Van carbon steel (powder-coated for corrosion resistance) for slicing and fine work. The BK16 Short Drop Point offers the same length with a classic drop-point grind for versatile camp/survival tasks. The BK17 Short Clip Point adds a clip-point profile for piercing and general utility. All three weigh ~4–5 oz (overall ~9.25 inches), with full-tang construction, Zytel handles (extra brown set included), MOLLE-compatible Cordura sheath, and hammer pommel—ideal for bushcraft knives, survival knives, and tactical fixed blades

Debuting alongside the BK18 Harpoon (also 2012, 4.625-inch blade with harpoon hook for gutting/roping), the Short series earned praise for affordability (~$60–$80 MSRP), USA-made durability, and balanced performance. Later Micarta handle upgrades (e.g., black/green) and discontinued status for BK15/BK17 boosted collector interest. The lineup solidified Becker's versatility in compact outdoor knives and Ka-Bar's commitment to Ethan's hard-use ethos
